BCUG GoLive SIG Notes -- 06/2001

Adding Files to ‘.site’ folder

You may add files to your ‘.site’ folder by using the Tool Bar, Site>Finder>Add Files. You may also drag files into your Site Window. Another option is to drag files into your Site Folder then going into your Tool Bar, Site>ReScan"Site" to insure that GoLive sees the files you added.

Links

A Link provides a way to jump from one location to another in Cyber Space. This Jump may be from one location of a page to another location on the same page, then it is called an Anchor. The Jump may also be from to one page to another page within a Web Site or to a page in another Web Site, A Link can also activate an email address. Links also gives your Page a roadmap to files in your ‘.site’ folder.

Images

There are three ways to add an image file to a web page.

Image Maps

Image Maps are Images with Hot Spots. One can use these hot spots as links to other pages, resources, Scripted Actions, or email addresses. One turns an Image into an Image Map by selecting the More Tab of the Image Inspector then clicking on the Use Map box. Then use the Tools on the Tool Bar for selecting the Hot Spots.

Floating Boxes

Floating Boxes are added by dragging the Floating Box Icon from the Basic Objects Pallet. Floating Boxes are good for overlaying another Object on the Page. Text or Images may be placed in a floating Box. Floating boxes are much like Layers in Photoshop, in that they may be stacked one on top of the other and may be transparent. There is a "Show/Hide" option than may be used in conjunction with Action Scripts. One may position a Floating Box precisely on a Page using Cascading Style Sheets to specific pixel coordinates.

Actions

Actions are sets of prefabricated JavaScripts and Cascading Style Sheets settings that allow one to insert values and options in the Actions Palette, then GoLive does the rest. GoLive comes with a number of Actions. More Actions may be downloaded, for free or for a fee, from the Adobe Web Site, GoLive Heaven and other sites.
